Hash Generator
Any text or file.
Every checksum.
Text
To hash text, type it and every hash (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA3-256, CRC32) updates instantly. For a file, choose File — it is read in chunks on your device, so even multi-gigabyte files work. Paste an expected checksum to verify a download.
Hash algorithms compared
| Algorithm | Output | Security | Use for |
|---|---|---|---|
| MD5 | 128-bit | Broken (collisions) | Checksums against accidental corruption |
| SHA-1 | 160-bit | Broken (collisions) | Legacy systems, Git object IDs |
| SHA-256 | 256-bit | Secure | File verification, signatures, blockchains |
| SHA-512 | 512-bit | Secure | High-security hashing |
| SHA3-256 | 256-bit | Secure | Modern alternative to SHA-2 |
| CRC32 | 32-bit | Not cryptographic | ZIP files, quick error detection |
Why it matters that this runs locally
Many online developer tools send what you paste to a server — risky when it contains API keys, session tokens, customer data or proprietary code. This tool runs entirely in your browser: open your browser's Network tab and you will see that nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I verify a downloaded file?
- Choose File, select the download, then paste the checksum published by the provider into "Compare". A green match means the file is intact and unmodified.
- Is MD5 secure?
- Not for security — MD5 and SHA-1 have known collisions. They're fine for checksums against accidental corruption, but use SHA-256 or better for anything security-related, and a dedicated algorithm (bcrypt, Argon2) for passwords.
- Is my data sent to a server?
- No. Everything runs in your browser, so tokens, keys, passwords and other sensitive data you paste never leave your device.
