Password Generator
Strong.
Random. Yours.
Very strong · 129 bits of entropy · longer than the age of the universe to guess
To generate a strong password, choose a length (16+ characters is recommended) and which characters to include, then copy the result. Passwords are created in your browser with a cryptographically secure random generator and are never sent or stored.
How to generate a strong password
- Choose Password or Passphrase.
- Set the length and the character types (or number of words).
- Press Copy — or ↻ for a new one.
How long would it take to crack?
| Password | Entropy | Time to guess* |
|---|---|---|
| 8 lowercase letters | 38 bits | seconds |
| 8 mixed characters | 52 bits | hours |
| 12 mixed characters | 78 bits | thousands of years |
| 16 mixed characters | 104 bits | longer than the age of the universe |
| 5-word passphrase | 65 bits | a few years — use 6+ words for long-term secrets |

Frequently asked questions
- How long should a password be?
- At least 16 random characters, or 5–6 random words for a passphrase. Both give more than 80 bits of entropy, which is far beyond what can be guessed by brute force.
- Are generated passwords stored or sent anywhere?
- No. They are generated in your browser using crypto.getRandomValues and never leave your device. Save them in a password manager.
- What is a passphrase?
- A password made of random words, like "orbit-candle-mosaic-river-plum". It is easier to type and remember than random characters, and just as strong when long enough.
