Frequently asked questions

Which format should I choose?
MP4 (H.264) for anything you want to share, upload or play on a TV. WebM for websites. MOV for Apple editing apps like iMovie and Final Cut.
Will converting reduce quality?
Not when the video can be copied as-is (for example MOV or MKV that already contains H.264). When re-encoding is needed, high quality settings are used.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Processing happens in your browser using your device's built-in, hardware-accelerated video engine (WebCodecs), so your files never leave your device.
How long does it take?
Usually a fraction of the video's length on a modern computer or phone, because your device's video hardware does the work. Large 4K files take longer, and very large files are limited by your device's memory.
Which browsers are supported?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. If a format can't be encoded in your browser, you'll see a clear message suggesting another format or browser.
