BMI uses WHO adult categories and doesn't account for muscle mass, age, sex or ethnicity (for South Asian adults, health risks rise from a BMI of about 23). It's a screening measure, not a diagnosis — talk to a doctor about your health.

Enter your height and weight (metric or imperial) to get your BMI, its WHO category — underweight below 18.5, healthy 18.5–24.9, overweight 25–29.9, obesity 30+ — and the healthy weight range for your height.

Frequently asked questions

How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ (height in metres)². For 70 kg and 1.75 m: 70 ÷ 3.0625 = 22.9.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
No. It doesn't distinguish muscle from fat and isn't designed for children, pregnant women or athletes. For South Asian adults, health risks begin at a lower BMI (around 23). Use it as a screening tool and talk to a doctor.
