To remove a background, drop a photo in and wait a few seconds while an AI model running in your browser finds the subject. Download the cut-out as a transparent PNG, or choose a white or colored background.
How to remove the background from an image
- Drop a photo into the box above (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC).
- Wait while the AI separates the subject — the first time, the AI model (about 45 MB) downloads once and is then cached.
- Choose transparent, white or a custom color background and press Download.
Getting the cleanest cut-out
- Use a photo where the subject stands out clearly from the background.
- Even lighting without strong shadows behind the subject gives cleaner edges.
- For product photos, choose the white background option — most marketplaces require it.
- Fine hair, fur and see-through objects are the hardest; check the edges before using the result.
How it works
The tool uses ormbg, an open-source (Apache-2.0) segmentation model, run in your browser with ONNX Runtime. The model predicts for every pixel whether it belongs to the foreground; that mask becomes the alpha channel of a full-resolution PNG.

Frequently asked questions
- Is my photo uploaded to remove the background?
- No. The AI model runs entirely in your browser (using WebGPU when available), so your photo never leaves your device.
- Why is the first run slower?
- Your browser downloads the AI model once (about 45 MB) and keeps it in its cache, so later photos are processed in seconds.
- What works best?
- Clear subjects — people, products, pets and objects — on a reasonably distinct background. Fine hair and transparent objects are harder and may need a quick check.
- Is it free? Do I need an account?
- Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily limits.
